I've looked into the possibility of getting a "group" license for Ancestry.com. The concept would be that a family association or a club could get a group license of so many seats. The answer is that it is not possible. The "seats" have to be in the same physical location. That is how libraries get their access. The details are below. So those of you that don't want to pay the hefty annual fee for ancestry, your best bet is to find out if your local library has a "library edition."
The details.
Good to visit with you on the phone Friday and thank you for your interest in Ancestry® Library Edition (ALE).
Per our telecon, a 12 month subscription for each club site would be $2,100.
This product provides for IN-HOUSE (Office) multiuser access for up to 50 computers and the quote is good for a new subscription that starts before December 10, 2011.
ALE differs from Ancestry .com – in that the family tree maker is NOT included with the subscription and there are some historical newspaper articles that are not included.
If I can be of further assistance or if you have any questions, please contact me.
